Synthesis of salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone is a part of the comprehensive experiment of Applied Chem-istry.The synthesis method was as follows:salicylaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide were refluxed in ethanol for 3 hours in the presence of catalytic amount of acetic acid.The object product was obtained with the yield of 75%-90%.In order to practice green and low-carbon chemistry concept,an improvement scheme was proposed based on theoretical calculation,and then was tested by the experiment.The improved reaction was conducted at room temperature in water and monitored by thin layer chromatography(TLC),affording the product in 91.0%yield after 0.5 h.This improved experiment can stimulate students'desire to explore scientific research,and also enhance students'green and low-carbon chemistry concept and environmental awareness.Furthermore,the improvement scheme under the guidance of theoretical calculation pro-vides a reference for the optimization of other teaching and scientific experiments.
