A study on the ESG Performance of Female Leaders in Chinese Listed Companies from the Dual Perspec-tives of Role Expectations and Impression Management
With the promotion of Environmental,Social,and Governance(ESG)globally,the performance of female leaders in corporate ESG has attracted much attention from all sectors of society.This paper takes China's listed companies from 2009 to 2022 as the research objects to explore the impact of female leaders on corporate ESG performance.Research shows that based on the response to role expectations,female leaders play a positive role in improving corporate ESG performance.Out of impression management motivation,female leaders have a more significant positive impact on improving governance.Further analysis found that for Special Treatment and Pause Trading(STPT)enterprises and enterprises with serious internal control deficiencies,the ESG impact of female leaders is not good.In this regard,it is recommended that enterprises actively encourage female leaders,cultivate their management abilities and strategic vision at the environmental and social levels,and strengthen corporate comp-liance awareness and internal control capabilities.
