A comparative study of the English translations of figures of speech,including Xizi,homopho-ny,hiding words,euphemism,etc.by David Hawkes and the Yangs suggests that semantic equivalence is chiefly oriented and the methods of literal,liberal translation,and the combination of them have been a-dopted to transplant the figures of speeches into English,in spite of they are from different cultural con-text,which on one hand,help shed light on the linguistic restraints on the adoption of translation method,on the other hand,the multi perspective in exploring diverse phenomenon of English translation of HON-GLOU MENG is highly demanded and more helpful to give more comprehensive interpretation to diversity in literary translation.
