This paper analyzes the errors in the machine-translated English abstracts of electromechanical papers,describing the typical errors of machine-translated texts in three aspects:lexical,syntactic and pragmatic mistranslation.Complex language patterns of the source language in the abstract,the large number of terminologies as well as Chinese and English featuring different languages and cultures are pri-marily to blame for the blunders.Therefore,for purpose of reducing and steering clear of the errors de-scribed above,it is essential for the translator to master pre-editing and post-editing,as well as the mas-tery of language and cultural differences appearing in Chinese and English.
