A Study on English Translation Strategies of Catchwords Based on Newmark's Translation Theory
Internet catchwords are the reflection of social views and ideological tendency of the times,so their English translation is helpful to better participate in cross-cultural communication.Under the guid-ance of Newmark's translation theory,this paper explores the English translation strategies of the top 10 Internet catchwords of 2021 published in Yao Wen Jiao Zi.The study finds that both Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation methods contribute to the English translation of these catch-words.It is of great significance to study its English translation strategies for cross-cultural communication and Chinese culture going out.
