Application of immune checkpoint inhibitors in adjuvant therapy for locally advanced esophageal cancer
Esophageal cancer is one of the common malignant tumors with a poor prognosis, and most patients are diagnosed at the advanced or locally advanced stage.Neoadjuvant chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy combined with surgery has improved the prognosis of patients with locally advanced disease, but the overall efficacy is still not ideal. To further improve the prognosis of patients, immune checkpoint inhibitors have been applied in neoadjuvant treatment, among which immune checkpoint inhibitors combined with chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy are commonly used. The advantages and disadvantages of these two schemes are still controversial. This article reviews the application of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the neoadjuvant treatment of locally advanced esophageal cancer, providing a reference for the selection of treatment options for locally advanced esophageal cancer.
