Cost of robotic versus thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery:A retrospective study
Objective:To compare the treatment cost difference between robotic and thoracoscopic lung can-cer surgery. Methods:Clinical data of 581 patients who underwent robotic and thoracoscopic lung can-cer surgery in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from November 2019 to April 2022 were retro-spectively collected. The patients were divided into a robotic group(n=188)and a thoracoscopic group(n=393).The baseline characteristics were compared between the two groups, and differences in treatment costs were analyzed. Results:The baseline characteristics were generally consistent be-tween the two groups.Intraoperative blood loss was significantly lower in the robotic surgery group than in the thoracoscopic surgery group(P<0.05).Medical costs in the robotic group were significant-ly higher than those in the thoracoscopy group(P<0.05),and the main differences were in the cost of robotic usage(surgical cost and consumables)(P<0.05).There were no differences in surgical com-plications,postoperative drainage time,or postoperative hospital stay between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:The main difference in the total cost of robotic versus thoracoscopic pulmo-nary surgery is derived from the cost of robotic usage.Robotic surgery offers advantages in controlling intraoperative blood loss.
