Progress in the application of microneedles in the treatment of melasma
Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation disease that is difficult to treat clinically, and the conventional treatment effect is not ideal. As an emerging drug delivery technology, the microneedle transdermal drug delivery system can painlessly and reversibly penetrate the cuticle of the skin and generate several microchannels, thereby effectively improving the permeability of drugs, achieving controllable and continuous targeted drug delivery, and then obtaining better bioavailability of drugs.Microneedles as a sort of adjuvant therapy have been widely used in the clinical treatment of melasma. In this paper, the therapeutic mechanism, preparation process, specific classification, advantages, and disadvantages of microneedle therapy, and its application in the treatment of melasma were reviewed to provide certain insights into the treatment of microneedles in melasma.
