Research on the Impact of Trade Openness on Entrepreneurship——A Case Study of Trade Openness in Late Qing Dynasty
Based on provincial panel data from 1894 to 1910 in the late Qing Dynasty,a two-way fixed-effects model is constructed to evaluate the impact of trade liberalization on entrepreneurship, and its mechanism is tested. This paper finds that trade liberalization in the late Qing period had a significant positive impact on the development of entrepreneurship, and the re-sults from robustness tests are consistent with the baseline results. The mechanism analysis shows that the establishment of modern institutions facilitates the promotion of entrepreneurship through trade liberalization. This research enriches and extends the theoretical study of the relationship between trade liberalization and entrepreneurship, while also providing theoretical insights for better leveraging entrepreneurship to promote high-quality economic development in China in the new era.
