The development of applied characteristic disciplines in a connotative manner is an essential path for the discipline con-struction of local universities.In the context of the"Double First-Class"initiative,exploring the necessity,logical pro-gression,and pathway choices for the connotative development of applied characteristic disciplines in local universities holds significant practical importance.This paper finds that the connotative development of applied specialty disciplines in local universities is an intrinsic requirement for aligning with national strategies and achieving a strong education sys-tem.It is also an objective necessity for regional economic development and promoting industrial upgrading,as well as an important approach to improving the disciplinary system and accelerating the transformation of research outcomes.The connotative development of applied characteristic disciplines in local universities should comply with discipline logic,so-cial demand logic,and cultural logic.And then it makes a choice of ways to strengthen tripartite cooperation and build superior disciplines;to establish discipline groups and form first-class interdisciplinary teams;to deepen the integration of industry and education,school-enterprise cooperation,and to cultivate innovative talents.
