"Taking Something to be True"and Kant's Theory of Belief
Kant proposed that we have a genus of mental states called"taking something to be true",compasod of subject's three stages of mental attitudes concerning judgments, namely opinion, believing, and knowing.kant explained that the reason for such classication is according to whether their grounds are sufficient. We can, however, find that Kant actually talked about three meanings of subjective and objec-tive grounds, and the division of three stages is based on cognitive phenomenology. Some researchers dis-tinguished"taking something to be true"from contemporary concepts of belief, meanwhile, sorted them into the kind of acceptance. This is misleading idea, and it will lose some benefits of Kant's claim for the contemporary theory of belief. These contents include at least the possibility of practical aim of belief and the indirect voluntarism.
