Creating Meaning for Form and Creating Form for Meaning:Two Constructive Paths of Non-Real"zai(再)VP"—An Interactive Perspective on the Structure,Semantics and Expression of Constructionalization
Through a comprehensive examination of structure, semantics, and expression,it is found that the non-real"zai(再)VP"has three usages:imperative/willingness statement"zai(再)VP1",remind-er/warning"zai(再)VP2",and worry-recognition/worry"zai(再)VP3"."zai(再)VP2"is shaped by interac-tion,leading to semantic and expression mismatches, which are redefined through retrospective reasoning;the new semantics and"zai(再)VP"become conventionalized, completing the constructionalization process. It is the path of creating meaning for form in constructionalization."zai(再)VP3"is shaped by in-teraction,which leads to the integration of similar structures and generates syntactic innovation;the new structure absorbs the semantics of complex sentences and undergoes constructionalization. It is the path of creating form for meaning in constructionalization. There is not only a parallel relationship between struc-ture,semantics and expression, but more importantly, there is also an interactive relationship. From the interactive perspective of structure, semantics and expression,we can make a reasonable explanation of constructionalization and grammaticalization, and can link the motivation and inducement of grammaticalization, which is worthy of an in-depth discussion.
