The Cold Resistance of Seven Introduced Evergreen Broad-leaved Plants in Beijing
The morphological, biochemical and physiological index of seven introduced evergreen broad-leaved plants in the over-wintering period in Beijing were studied from Nov. 2007 to Mar. 2008. The cold resistance of each introduced evergreen broad-leaved plant was evaluated, and the effect of each determination index in the evaluation was analyzed. The study showed that: the overall changes of water saturation deficit value, electrical conductivity, ration of bound water and free water, SOD activity, APX activity and soluble sugar content showed a trend of firstly rise and then decline, while chlorophyll content showed a trend of firstly decline and then rise, so they can be considered as the physiological index to evaluate cold resistance of evergreen broad-leaved plant; the changes of POD activity and MDA content were not significant, so they can hardly be the evaluation index for cold resistance of evergreen broad-leaved plant. Comprehensive analysis of each index found that the cold resistance of seven plants ordered as Cotoneaster suecicus Coral Beauty>Ilex meserveae Blue Princess and C. oleifera>Euonymus fortunei Emerald -'n' Gold and E. fortunei Emerald Gaiety >C. japonica and C. japon.ica April Rose. Consequently we suggested that when evaluate the cold resistance of the introduced evergreen broad-leaved plant should use comprehensive analysis method that using multiphysiological index, and combined with growing index.
