Chemical Control of Red Imported Fire Ants in Yuanmou Dry-Hot Valley Area
The red imported fire ants are dangerous invasive pests in Yuanmou dry-hot valley area.A field experiment was conducted to determine the control effects of 7 insecticides against red imported fire ants,on the basis of which the insecticides suitable to be applied here were screened out.The results showed that on day 7 after application,8%cypermethrin wettable powder had the strongest control effect on the nests of red imported fire ants,followed by 0.73%hydramethylnon bait,which showed the mean control effects of 100%and 93.75%,respectively.On days 14 and 21 after application,8%cypermethrin wettable powder and 2.05%hydramethylnon + imidacloprid bait showed the control effect of 100%,and other insecticides showed the control effect of 93.75%.On day 1 after application,8%cypermethrin wettable powder reduced the ants per nest by 100%,which was higher than that of other treatments except 0.1%dinotefuran bait.On day 7 after application,8%cypermethrin wettable powder reduced the ants per nest by over 90%,which,however,decreased on day 21.The seven insecticides tested can be used alternately according to the environmental changes in Yuanmou dry-hot valley area for effective control of red imported fire ants.Specifically,0.2%cypermethrin powder,0.73%hydramethylnon bait,2.05%hydramethylnon + imidacloprid bait and other insecticides can be used to control the population,and then 8%cypermethrin wettable powder can be used to eradicate red imported fire ants.
