Screening of Rice Cultivars with Low Cadmium Accumulation and Cadmium-Reducing Effect of Enzymes
To explore the safe rice production under cadmium contamination, this study examined the cadmium accumulation in the brown rice of 50 cultivars grown in the areas with light cadmium contamination in Hunan Province and investigated the effects of spraying plant-derived enzymes on cadmium accumulation in the brown rice of different cultivars. The results showed that the cadmium uptake by rice varied significantly among different cultivars.Among the 50 rice cultivars studied,'Taiyou 390','Longxiangyou 310',and'Longliangyou 1988'had significantly lower cadmium content than other rice cultivars and could serve as emergency cultivars for safe rice production in the areas with light cadmium contamination.Spraying bioenzymes exerted significantly different effects on the cadmium accumulation in different rice cultivars. The cadmium content in some rice cultivars could be reduced to the level below the national safety limit by reasonable application of enzymes.
