Effects of Different Mulching Patterns on Quality and Spring Yield of Asparagus
This study aims to promote the growth of asparagus in early spring and increase the spring yield of asparagus. The asparagus variety'CD-12'was cultivated with five mulching patterns:rice husks, asparagus straw, arch shed, arch shed+rice husks, and arch shed+asparagus straw. The quality and spring yield of asparagus were compared between different mulching patterns. The results showed that all the five mulching patterns raised the ground temperature and promoted the early growth of asparagus. The two combined patterns with arch shed had more significant warming effects. The mulching pattern of arch shed+asparagus straw had the best effect, with the ground(15 cm)temperature 2.5-7.5 ℃ higher, the harvest 12 days earlier, the yield 36.39%higher,and the net income 47.46%higher than the control. The mulching pattern of arch shed+rice husks had the yield 22.01%higher than the control, while its cost was higher than that of arch shed+asparagus straw.Among single mulching patterns(rice husks, asparagus straw, and arch shed),arch shed had better warming effect, with the yield 11.80%higher than the control. However, because of the high cost, arch shed alone had no advantage in net income over the control.Mulching with rice husks or asparagus straw did not lead to obvious increase in asparagus yield or economic benefits.
