Correlation and path analysis between germination rate and seed morphological traits of Glyptostrobus pensilis
To investigate the influence of seed morphological traits on the germination rate of Glyptostrobus pensilis, the seed length, seed width, seed projected area, seed color(RGB),1000-grain weight, empty seed rate and germination rate of six families from Gutian County,Fujian Province were measured.Taking the seed morphological traits as independent variables, and the germination rate as dependent variables, the path coefficients and determinant coefficient were calculated using correlation analysis and path analysis. The results showed that there were extremely significant differences in seed width, seed projected area,R value,G value,1000-grain weight, empty seed rate, germination potential and germination rate among the six families.Germination rate was significantly positively correlated with seed width and 1000-grain weight, and significantly negatively correlated with G value and B value.Path analysis indicated that the 1000-grain weight(X1),R value(X2)and G value(X3)were the main factors that affected germination rate(Y).The multiple regression equation of germination rate and these three seed morphological traits was obtained by multiple regression analysis:Y=8.421+4.870 X1+0.753 X2-1.126 X3.G value had a direct negative effect(direct path coefficient was-1.300)on germination rate with the largest determination coefficient(1.690).In conclusion, selecting red seeds with high maturity and avoiding green seeds was the effective way to improve the seed germination rate of Glyptostrobus pensilis.
