Birds diversity in breeding and overwintering period in Taojiang County
Birds are a crucial component of global biodiversity and indicator species for assessing the richness of biological diversity,ecosystem integrity and health in a region.To ascertain the current status of birds resources in Taojiang County,Yiyang City,Hunan Province,an investigation on the birds resources diversity was conducted from May 2022 to February 2023,using the line transect survey method.The findings revealed the documentation of 118 birds species belonging to 42 families and 14 orders,with Passeriformes birds were the predominant order.There were 13 species of national key protected wild animals.The dominant species were all birds of Passeriformes,and Passer montanus was the most abundant during both the breeding and overwintering periods.The number of recorded birds species and individuals was higher in the breeding period than that in the overwintering period.The birds were mainly resident birds,followed by summer migrant species,and the least were winter migrant species.The avifauna was dominated by oriental species,followed by widespread species and Palaearctic species.Both species richness and community diversity of birds in the breeding period were higher than those in the overwintering period,and the birds communities in the two periods were moderately similar.Forest land hosted the highest diversity and abundance of birds species compared to other habitat types,as evidenced by the highest Margalef richness index,along with three α diversity index.This survey basically mastered the current situation of birds resources in Taojiang County,and provided basic data and scientific basis for the birds conservation in the future.
