Growth performance and changes of secondary metabolite content of Spartholobus suberectus with understory cultivation
In order to improve the understory cultivation technology of Sparthobus suberectus, experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of different forest canopy densities and humidity on the growth of S.suberectus, the changes in secondary metabol ite content of S.suberectus in different growth years were determined, and the quality of medicinal materials of SS.suberectus cultivated under forest was compared with those grew in wild and monocultured on slopes. The results showed that the growth rate of S.suberectus planted in A2 forest(forest canopy density was 0.6)was significantly higher than that planted in A1 forest(forest canopy density was 0.3).The average yield per plant of 6-year-old S.suberectus planted in A2 forest reached 24.15 kg,and the diameter of the main vine reached 6.38 cm,significantly higher than those in A1 forest as 13.58 kg and 4.42 cm,respectively. The humidity of forest air and soil has a significantly impacted on the growth of S.suberectus.The single plant yield and main vine diameter of S.suberectus planted in B1 forest land(understory habitat near water)were higher than those planted in B2 forest land(understory habitat far away with water). The contents of total alcohol soluble extract and accumulation of secondary metabolites such as the flavonoids, catechins, and epicatechins in 6-year-old S.suberectus planted in B1 forest land were also higher than those planted in B2 forest land. With the extension of growth years of understory cultivation, the contents of alcohol soluble extracts, total flavonoids, catechins, epicatechins and the medicinal active ingredients of S.suberectus all showed an increasing trend. The quality of the 6-year-old S.suberectus cultivated under the forest could reach the quality of wild herbs, which was better than the quality of monoculture cultivation on slopes. It is recommended that S.suberectus planted under the forest more than 6 years can be used as medicine material.
