Natural tree structure and risk assessment of seven common landscape tree species in Guangzhou
There are some trees in the city that are at risk of accidents due to damage. To ensure the safety of public life and property,it is necessary to summarize the relevant principles of tree structure and tree risk through risk assessment to guide the maintenance and management of garden trees.Using a landscape tree risk assessment model, safety risk assessments were conducted on seven landscape tree species which had not been pruned in Guangzhou, including Camphora officinarum,Delonix regia,Eucalyptus citriodora,Falcataria falcata,Ficus altissima,Heteropanax fragrans, and Melaleuca cajuputi subsp.cumingiana.The relationship between their natural tree shape and tree safety was analyzed. The results showed:(1)The overall average risk value of the sample trees was 2.29,with 23.8%of trees classified as first-level risk(low risk),71.4%of trees classified as second-level risk,4.8%of trees classified as third-level risk, and none were classified as fourth-level risk.Delonix regia and Heteropanax fragrans had the lowest risk.It indicated that the overall risk of garden trees in natural tree shape was lower, but regular and moderate pruning each year was still necessary.(2)Landscape trees with low risk had the characteristics of healthy stems, uniform canopy structure, good branch connections, and reasonable branching angles.(3)To comprehensively reduce the risks of landscape trees, measures should be taken in terms of tree shape management, health monitoring, pest and disease control, and so on.
