《荀子·乐论》为儒家学说体系中第一篇论乐专文,直接影响了儒家乐论的形态与立场.英语世界现有《乐论》的译介多附加了丰富的副文本.以《乐论》所秉乐教观为例,考量多维度的副文本再建构形态,可发现译者以副文本为乐教价值建构的主要场域,将中文世界所论的和谐自由的生命状态改写为带有鲜明功利性的集权主义、精英主义乐教观.《乐论》英语副文本建构中音乐价值与形式的嬗变,彰显了译者与作者于认知框架和文化语境层面的本质性差异.从副文本视角考察乐典的海外建构样态,对西方汉学做反向追溯与批评性研究,对提升中华文化域外传播的质量或有启发意义.
Paratext and Reconstruction:A Study on the English Translation and Variation of Xunzi's Musical Thoughts
"On Music"by Xunzi stands as the first and most influential treatise on music within the Confucian school,significantly shaping the form and stance of Confucian discourse on music.Existing English translations of the"On Music"often include extensive supplementary content.This study focuses on the ethical roles revealed through"On Music"and explores the multidimensional construction of para-texts by translators.It highlights how translators primarily employ para-texts as the main arena for shaping the values of music education,transforming the Chinese discourse on harmonious and free life states into a distinct utilitarian,authoritarian,and elitist perspective on music education.The transformation of music's value and forms within the English para-texts of"On Music"underpins the fundamental differences in cognitive frameworks and cultural contexts between translators and the original authors.
