A Study on the Semantic Analysis and Event Integration Mechanism of Verbal Blending Existential Sentence in Modern Chinese
Though the study of existential sentences has long been a hot topic,little attention is paid to the verbal blending existential sentence.Based on previous research results,this paper mainly investigates the demarcation,constituents and semantic features of verbal blending existential sentence,and tries to make a cognitive interpretation of its formation mechanism from the perspective of Event Integration Theory.Three main findings are presented:Firstly,blending existential sentence is generally a simple sentence without any pause and is formed by the blending of existential sentence and subsequent verbal structure;Secondly,the blending"VP1+NP+VP2"construction displays three kinds of syntactic representations differing in semantic features,semantic relations and semantic orientations;Thirdly,the formation of blending existential sentence is determined by the event integration mechanism,which is embodied in three cognitive dimensions,space-time,participants and event relations.
