The Establishment Motivation,Development Stages and Value Orientation of the Ed.D Cultivation System in China
The cultivation system of Doctor of Education(Ed.D)is an important part of the Chinese system of teacher education.It has met the need for various high quality professional required by Chinese education and improved the structure of academic degree and postgraduate education since its establishment in 2009.In order to further understand this system,the study investigates some universities with Ed.D program,revealing the internal and external motivation of its establishment and development stages.The external motivation of its establishment is the need for excellent teachers and the practice of Ed.D programs in the western countries.The internal motivation is China's economic and social development,changes in the labor market and the growing demand for high quality education.The development of the Ed.D education in China can be divided into three periods:the birth period with the United States Ed.D programs as reference(1999-2008);the pilot period integrated with national management and university experiments(2009-2015);and the continued development period focusing on meeting the demands and improving the quality of Ed.D programs(since 2016).In the process,the policy support alliance composed of political and academic elites plays an important role in the establishment and development of the program in China.Its establishment and development reflect the importance of teachers'practical knowledge and the emphasis on knowledge practice,and is a response to the needs of social advance.
