Mystery and Truth:The Author of Tao Zhu Gong's Fish Farming and Its Edition Evolution
There are many scholarly disputes about the author of Tao Zhu Gong's Fish Farming,with possibilities including Jia Sixie,a disciple of Fan Li,or an anonymous person from the Western Han Dynasty.However,an examination of its contents,the discovery of new historical materials,and the refutation of old viewpoints reveal that its author is most probably Fan Li.Meanwhile,an analysis of its twenty-one editions from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty shows that with the evolution of the times,the book had been constantly added,deleted or modified,reflecting the accumulation of fish farming knowledge.In addition,during the process of collecting documentary materials,two pieces of materials which were suspected the original from the book were discovered,namely the five Chinese characters"ba yi mu shu ye",literally meaning eight is also the number of woods,and the breeding method from Fish Farming.Their discovery has a positive effect on the study of Tao Zhu Gong's Fish Farming.
