Economic analysis and comparison of different hydrogen production routes
The costs of several common hydrogen production routes, including coal gasification, natural gas reforming, water electrolysis and recovery of by-product hydrogen from coke oven gas are analyzed.According to the levelized cost of hydrogen model, hydrogen production coal gasification has the best economic efficiency currently.Producing hydrogen by water electrolysis is not economical under current electricity prices.Feedstock price and electricity price are the key factors influencing the cost of hydrogen production. If renewable electricity use is considered, hydrogen from water electrolysis will be economically competitive around 2030.These findings serve as a foundation for decision-making basis to reduce hydrogen production costs, improve economic efficiency, and promote hydrogen industry development.
