The Archaeological Exploration on the Culture of Xia Dynasty
Chinese modern archaeology came into being in the 1920s.Archaeology is based on the field work such as investigation and excavation and adopts the method in combination with multi-disciplines,which lays a sci-entific foundation for the exploration of Xia culture.In 1921,Mr.Liji went to the Fenhe River basin in southern Shanxi province to make the archaeological investigation,which is especially regarded as the starting point,and it has been a hundred years since then.Over the past century,several generations of archaeologists have endured great hardships in pioneer work,explored in this field diligently,and made fruitful achievements.In 1959,Mr.Xu Xush-eng,known as"the pioneer of Xia culture",went to Dengfeng,Yuxian,Yanshi and other places in Henan province to conduct the investigation,marking the beginning of the study of Xia culture archaeology.Exploring the Xia culture is of great significance for the study on the origin of early Chinese civilization and the formation and development of early Chinese states.
