摘要
21世纪以来,文艺复兴研究在中国的蓬勃发展对考察"小史诗"这一类别性术语的源流提出了要求.19世纪的古典学家最先将"小史诗"用作一种文学体裁,用以指代传统英雄史诗在亚历山大时期的变体.然而,由于研究样本过少、文类特征混乱,"小史诗"的合法性长期备受质疑.20世纪下半叶的英国文学研究者认为"伊丽莎白时期神话爱欲叙事诗"与"亚历山大小史诗"属于同一文类,遂借用这一术语指代16世纪末英国集中涌现的十余首短篇叙事诗,但这一观点同样遭到后世学者反对.深入认识"小史诗"作为文学类别的学理根据和历史渊源,对于把握古典学、文艺复兴研究19世纪以来的学术动态具有关键性作用.
Abstract
Since the 21st century,the robust development of Renaissance studies in China has prompted an inquiry into the origins of the generic term"epyllion".The term"epyllion"was initially employed by classicists in the 19th century to denote a variation of traditional heroic epic during the Hellenistic period.However,its validity has long been questioned due to limited research samples and genre characteristic confusion.In the latter half of the 20th century,scholars in English literature considered"Elizabethan mythological erotic narrative verse"and"Alexandrine epyllion"as the same literature genre,using"epyllion"or"minor epic"to refer groups of short narrative English poems that emerged at the end of the 16th century.Nevertheless,this perspective was subsequently challenged by later scholars.A comprehensive understanding of"epyllion"as a literary genre plays a pivotal role in grasping academic dynamics within classical and Renaissance studies since the 19th century.
