The Creation and Determination of Chinese Terms of Hydrogen,Nitrogen,Oxygen,Fluorine and Chlorine
氢(Hydrogen),氮(Nitrogen),氧(Oxygen),氟(Fluorine)and 氯(Chlorine)are very important elements in modern chemistry, but the creation and dissemination of these terms has always been unclear. This study found that,"氢(Hydrogen),氟(Fluorine)and 氯(Chlorine)"was first created by the European Branch of the Chinese Chemical Society in 1908,and its achievements were absorbed by the Terms Compiling Department established in 1909,creating"氮(Nitrogen)and 氧(Oxygen)".These terms did not have a significant impact at the beginning of their creation, but were widely used after 1920 with the strong support of Zheng Zhenwen and the Commercial Press. They were finally determined at the Chemistry Forum sponsored by Ministry of Education in 1932,and were accepted by the chemical community.
