The Defects of the Chinese Dictionary from the Opera Inscription of Qing Dynasty in South Shanxi
"Chinese Dictionary"is currently the largest, most extensive, and authoritative Chinese dictionary. It focus-es on"both ancient and modern, both source and current,"providing accurate interpretations and abundant documentary evi-dence,making it an important reference book. However, due to the extensive scale and challenging compilation task, there may inevitably be some defects in documentary evidence, meaning, and morphology. This paper, based on the traditional op-era inscriptions of the Qing Dynasty in the south of Shanxi Province, conducts a review of the interpretation, documentary evi-dence,and morphology found in the Chinese Dictionary. The goal is to offer some reference for the future compilation and revi-sion of the dictionary.
