Graphological Falsification of the Characters in MaGushan Xiantan Ji
There are three versions of the characters in the book, two of which are extant today. The first version's whereabouts are unknown, and it has not been seen. The second version is currently held at the Zhejiang Museum, and the third is in the collection of the Beijing Library(National Library of China)by Xu Ziqiang.Using graphology, this paper compares and analyzes 31 groups of characters in"MaGu Xiantan Ji"(equivalent to the sample handwriting)with the char-acters in Yan Zhenqing's handwriting(equivalent to the sample handwriting). The analysis reveals significant differences in style, structure, and different characters between the sample handwriting and Yan Zhenqing's known handwriting.Ad-ditionally,there are differences in avoiding the characters"xuan"and"world."Therefore,it is concluded that MaGu Xian-tan Ji,received in Zhongyitang Engraving, was not written by Yan Zhenqing himself.
