Synthesis of polyacrylamide with medium or low molecular weight and narrow weight distribution by aqueous RAFT polymerization
In order to develop an efficient RAFT reagent and a simple method for synthesizing narrow distribution polyacrylamide with high molecular weight,A new controllable/active polymer chain transfer agent(RAFT reagent)1,4-benzyl trithiocarbonate-based dipropionic acid was synthesized.Under the condition of thermal initiation or photoinitiation,the RAFT reagent initiated the active controllable aqueous solution polymerization to synthesize narrow distribution of low molecular weight and medium molecular weight polyacrylamide,with the dispersion coefficient of Mw/Mn<1.1.The narrow distribution polyacrylamide with different molecular weights was synthesized by changing the monomer[M]0/chain transfer agent[CTA]0/initiator feed ratio([M]0/[CTA]0/[I]0),with the highest molecular weight of 5.0×106.The molecular weight and dispersion coefficient of polyacrylamide were determined by Chromatography-Eighteen Angles Laser Light Scattering(GPC-MALLS).
