Study on the Surface Treatment and Bonding Properties of PEEK
Polyether ether ketone(PEEK)exhibits the advantages of excellent mechanical properties and good biostability and are widely used in aerospace, military industry and oral medicine. However, the surface of PEEK is hydrophobic and has a low surface energy, making it a difficult-to-bonding material, which hinders its application. Therefore, exploring suitable surface treatments for PEEK is crucial for its application. This experi-ment investigates the effect of different surface treatments such as sanding and corona coprocessing on the micro-morphology,water contact angle, surface elements and bonding performance of PEEK.The results show that for different grit sandpaper sanding treatment,80 grit sandpaper sanding produces more obvious grooves on the PEEK surface, increasing the bonding area.Corona treatment can introduce oxygen-containing functional groups on the PEEK surface, increasing the wettability. The water contact angle of the PEEK surface decreases significantly with increasing corona time. The contact angle of the PEEK after 80 grit sandpaper grinding and 30 s corona treatment is the lowest which is 17.10 °.The bonding perfor-mance of PEEK joints at 25 ℃,120 ℃ is better, and the damage form is the destruction of PEEK.
