Effect of Brine Discharge from Seawater Desalination on Macrobenthos Community in Jiaozhou Bay
Based on the investigation data of macrobenthic organisms from 8 stations in Jiaozhou Bay near the brine discharge outlet of the seawater desalination plant in March 2022,the community structure characteristics of macrobenthic organisms were analysed, and the influence of brine discharge from seawater desalination on macrobenthos was discussed.A total of 52 macrobenthic species in 4 categories were found, including 23 polychaetes,14 arthropods and mollusks, and 1 neomorpha, accounting for 44.3%,26.9%,26.9%and 1.9%of the total species, respectively. There were five species of macrobenthos with Index of Relative Importance(IRI)values of not less than 500 in the surveyed sea area, including Nephthys oligobranchia,Pseudopolydora kempi,Musculus senhousia,Mya arenaria and Macrophamus japonicus. The total average abundance and biomass of macrobenthos were 1 194 ind/m2 and 24.07g/m2.The Shannon index,Margalef index and Pielou evenness index were 2.35,1.65 and 0.59,respectively.Compared with the historical data, the community structure of macrobenthic in this survey were similar, but there was significant changes in average biomass, habitat density and dominant species. This paper can provide a reference for scientific assessment of the ecological impact of brine discharge from seawater desalination.
