An Optimized Design of the Fairing for the Moon Pool of Research Ship
Multi-beam has been widely used in scientific research ships as an ocean measurement tool. But due to the interference of water velocity and noise,it is necessary to design a suitable fairing for the moon pool in combination with the local environment.Optimization designs of the fairing for the multi beam equipment inside the moon pool were studied for the scientific research ship.Firstly,a streamlined fairing scheme with no edge horn mouth was designed considering the external flow and drag reduction of multi beam equipment. Then, from the aspects of reducing water turbulence, preventing entanglement, eliminating air bubbles, and eliminating entrainment effects, six optimization design schemes were carried out, including local water blocking plates, adding outer edges, fully enclosed type, separated and misaligned type, single extension docking structures, and using linear flat mouth baffles. The CFD method was used to analyze the internal flow field characteristics and hydrodynamic performance of the moon pool of the research ship in detail under various schemes at different speeds. Finally, the scheme of separated and misaligned fairing is proved to be the optimal design scheme for this type of scientific research ship.It provide technical supports for old ship transformation and ship shape optimization.
