Evolution of Modern Sedimentary Bodies of Liaohe Estuary Delta Based on Remote-Sensing Method
Shoals were developed in Liaohe Estuary which is one of the most important estuaries of Bohai Bay.The military maps of the 1940s and 1950s as well as the remote sensing images since the 1970s of the Landsat series satellite MSS,TM and OLI were used in this study.Waterline method and visually manual interpretation method were used to extract the shape information of the coastline and shoals in order to analyze the evolution of modern sedimentary bodies in Liaohe Estuary in the past 70 years. The result showed that:the coastline kept on extending to the sea under the influence of river current.Since the 1980s,anthropogenic activities had significant effects on the coastline. The shoals near the entrance of estuary had always been changed frequently under the influence of hydrodynamic forces of currents, tides and waves. The location and shape of the main body of Gaizhou Shoal had not significantly changed, while the southern part of the shoal was obviously modified by waves and tides.
