A macroalgae detection index based on moderate-resolution imaging spectrometer (MODIS) data is ap-plied to monitor the evolution of a green tide during 2015. The earliest observation of Ulva prolifera patches off-shore Subei area was in May 13th. Strips of Ulva prolifera developed into two branches, northward and eastward, both of which expanded. The northward strip gradually developed into one united massive pattern, while the east-ward strip remained scattered. After the northward strip reached the end of Shandong Peninsula, a huge-scale land-ing process began along the coast of Rushan—Qingdao—Haiyang. The strips persisted offshore Subei area until August 5th. Subsequently, the massive Ulva prolifera bloom was not detected in MODIS images.
