Research progress on the flux estimation of environmental microplastic
Microplastic pollution in the marine environment will not only pose a threat not only to the ecosystem, but also to marine life and human health.Since river is considered as the main way for mi-croplastic transported to the sea, previous reviews mainly focused on river microplastic.However,re-cent studies have shown that atmospheric microplastic and coastal microplastic have great contribution to ma-rine microplastic pollution. Therefore,it is important to evaluate the source, transfer, flux and im-pact of microplastic in the environment. This paper reviews recent research efforts on the flux of mi-croplastic from inland into the sea.Since the estimation of the microplastic flux into the sea still has great uncertainty,a standard method for data calibration and verification is needed in the future to compare the modeling result and field monitoring data efficiently. The study is of great importance to more accurately estimate the microplastic flux into the sea and better understand the transfer of microplastic in the environment.
