Constitutional Amendment Movement in Japan's Political Game during the Post-war Independence Period
During the post-war period of independent autonomy, two major forces in Japan, conservatism and innovation, participated in political games centered on the core issues of constitutional amendment and consti-tutional protection, based on their respective rational cognition, interest expectations, and strategic choices. The conservative forces sought to utilize their governing position to amend the pacifist constitution, resolve the contradiction between Article 9 of the constitution and Japan's rearmament, and truly achieve the country's strategic autonomy. However, due to resistance from domestic peace-loving forces led by the innovative forces, and the high threshold for explicit constitutional amendment, conservative forces intended to instead modify the old security treaty, elevate Japan's position in the U.S.-Japan military alliance, expand its autonomous space, and indirectly achieve the goal of breaking free from constitutional constraints and reorganizing military forces to some extent. The signing of the new security treaty increased the risk of Japan's involvement in overseas wars initiated by the United States, triggering large-scale anti-security movements.
