SHIPS AND FORTRESS:THE EVOLUTION OF MILITARY SPACES IN NANJING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE YANGTZE RIVER
Military Parade(Yue Cao)by WU Bin from the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644)is the sole available image of large-scale military activities on the Yangtze River in Ancient Nanjing.It illustrates the location and importance of warships and shipyards in the coastal areas to the west of Nanjing in the Ming Dynasty.Taking it as a clue,we can further reconstruct the intimate relationship between several historic battles and the urban space of Nanjing,and their lasting influence on Nanjing's urban structure.
