A LONG-TERM LEAP IN URBAN LAYOUT:THE ONGOING PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF NANJING JIANGBEI NEW AREA
In the planning and development of Nanjing,known as the Ancient Capital of Six Dynasties and a histori-cal and cultural city,the development of Jiangbei New Area is the final step in the establishment of a polycentric urban structure.The identification and cultural establishment of architectural and urban environmental features of Jiangbei New Area is a dynamic,incremental,and long-term process,and the result from merely 10 years of construction is insuf-ficient to forecast the final outcome of urban development.Reflecting on the context and objectives of the New Area development and focusing on key architectural elements like the urban design of the core area,large underground spaces,and landmarks,this article makes some temporal observations and reflections on the architectural endeavors from the perspective of planning guidance in this national new area.
