Study on Synthesis and Performance of Novel Sulphonate Waterborne Polyurethane Emulsion
A series of novel sulphonate type waterborne polyurethane (WPU) emulsion with different ethylene-diamine sodium sulphonate (N60) content were prepared with poly(ethylene-glycol-adipate) diols, toluene diiso-cyanate(TDI) and N60 as main raw materials. The effects of N60 content on the WPU emulsions and films performance were studied. The WPU emulsions and films were characterized by FTTR, TEM and TGA. The experiment results showed that the sulphonate type WPU emulsion had better storage stability, freeze thaw stability and high temperature stability. With the increasing of N60 content, the particle size of WPU emulsions was smaller first ,and then bigger, the dispersivity of particle size became narrower, the tensile strength of film and water absorption increased, the elongation at break decreased. The particles of WPU emulsion were basically spherical and its distribution were good. Compared with carboxylic acid type WPU, the film of sulphonate type WPU presented better tensile strength and thermostability.
