A Comparative Study of Methyl Formate and HCFC-141b as Foaming Agent of Rigid Polyurethane Foam
Two series rigid polyurethane foams were prepared using methyl formate and HCFC-141b as blowing agents, respectively. The viscosity and foaming time of the polyol component and the density, compressive strength, and water absorption of the prepared polyurethane foams were compared between the two foaming systems. The results showed that methyl formate had a strong foaming ability, the viscosity of the polyol component under the methyl formate system was low,the compressive strength of the polyurethane foam under the methyl formate system was small, the water absorption rate was slightly larger than that of HCFC-141b blown foams.Methyl formate had a negative influence on the flame retardant properties of polyurethane foam, which could be enhanced by adding expanded graphite.
