Haptic Wearable Design Based on Shape Memory Alloy Actuators
Nowadays, there is a trade-off between the bulkiness of the devices and the quality of haptic feedback haptic wearables.Shape memory alloys(SMAs)are lightweight with small volumes, and they are flexible to be embedded into soft materials.Additionally,SMAs can provide different types of haptic feedback to users. This study investigates the relatively under-explored area of stroking haptic feedback.By addressing the visually impaired individuals'navigation scenarios and general population'emotional regulation scenarios, two SMA-based prototypes:a wearable haptic navigation and an emotion regulation bracelet, are designed.Through these examples, this article aims to reveal the application prospects of shape memory alloys in the field of haptic wearables, providing new inspirations and insights for future HCI.
