Strategies and Methods of Tactile Graphics Design for Visually Impaired People
With the development of inclusive design and accessibility technologies, the field of tactile graphics design is gradually attracting academia attention. The significance of this research lies in its capacity to democratize information access for individuals with visual impairments.Specifically,it enables visually impaired people to grasp abstract concepts and spatial relationships more effectively. This paper delves into the conceptualization process of tactile graphics design, methodically examining the essential elements that should be considered in the design process. These elements are analyzed through six dimensions:user needs, materials and craftsmanship, educational psychology, inclusiveness and accessibility, cultural and societal relevance, and sustainability. The study presents a multi-layered tactile graphics design conceptualization framework that aims to guide the development of future tactile graphics to better serve the visually impaired people.
