The Problems and Prospects of Sri Lanka's Basic Education Development from the Perspective of the Belt and Road Initiative
Sri Lanka is an important strategic partner of China and a strategic pivot country of the"21st Maritime Silk Road".A deep study of Sri Lanka's education will help us better carry out cultural and educational exchanges between China and Sri Lanka and serve the"Belt and Road"initiative. The historical context of basic education in Sri Lanka can be analyzed and grasped from four stages:its colonial period, before and after independence, before and after the civil war,and the period of the COVID-19 epidemic. At present, the development of its basic education is facing many difficulties:,such as the the inefficient school organization system, insufficient number of teachers, unbalanced development of regional education, lack of stability of education policies and insufficient government investment in education. To address these issues,Sri Lanka has launched the"Sri Lanka General Education Development Plan(2020-2025)",which is a blueprint for the future development of Sri Lanka's basic education. It can be roughly predicted that the development trend of Sri Lanka's basic education is mainly reflected in the following aspects:the pursuit of scientific education policy-making,systematic evaluation and supervision system, modernization of curriculum content, attention to diversified education funding sources, and promotion of information-based education methods.
