The Characteristics of Standards for Professional Development Schools:Alongside with a Comparison to American National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Standards
In order to understand the characteristics of standards for professional development schools, this paper analyzes the American NCATE Standards for Professional Development Schools. The researchers employed Nvivo 11.0 software for coding and analyzing standards for professional development school of Jiangsu Province,Shanghai,Guizhou Province,Shenzhen,Wuhan and Xiamen.Compared to the Amerian NCATE standards, the Chinese standards focuse more on teacher professional development and have more specific requirements in practice. Some common characteristics are found:they focuse external radiation function, internal cultivation function, and emphasize the good professional development level of teachers.Compared with the municipal standards, the provincial standards emphasize the external radiation and function of integration of teacher education. However, these standards do not highlight the"function building"of internally trained teachers. In the future,we should make two changes, one is from"competitive identification"to"standard certification",and the other is from"evaluation standards"to"functional construction standards",and draw inspiration from the"three categories and four levels"evaluation method in the NCATE standard,to help schools gradually improve the function of teacher education.
