From TEEP of Tsinghua University to X-institute of Shenzhen:Exploring and Practicing the Innovation-motivated Education
Zheng Quanshui is an expert in solid mechanics and micro and nano mechanics in China,an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,a professor at Tsinghua University,as well as the founding chief professor of Tsinghua University's Tsien Excellence in Engineering Program, and the founding president of Shenzhen X-institute.In his last 20 years of education and research,he has found that college students and even high school students have great potential for innovation. This paper showcases, through key cases, the practices and achievements of Tsien Excellence in Education Program of Tsinghua University and X-Institute of Shenzhen over the past years, illuminating a beacon of hope for an educational paradigm in the era of digital intelligence-education driven by innovation as an endogenous force for growth,or simply,Innovation-motivated education. The underlying logic of Innovation-motivated education prioritizes internal factors above external factors and genetics, fundamentally reversing the order of importance in industrial-era education. It is hoped that this paper will spark widespread debate and bold experimentation on how to pilot radical changes in future education and innovation.
