Acupoint Selection in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Syndrome by Moxibustion
Objective To explore the rule of acupoint selection in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome by moxibustion. Methods The articles about the clinical treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome by moxibustion were retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang Data,SinoMed,and VIP from the inception to April 1,2023.A library of the selected articles was established for data analysis. Results Mild moxibustion and indirect moxibustion were commonly employed in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome.Warming needle moxibustion was the most frequently used method, followed by simple moxibustion. The acupoints with high frequency included Xiaguan(ST7),Ashipoint,Jiache(ST6),and Tinggong(SI19).The stomach meridian of foot yang brightness was the meridian with the highest frequency of acupoints.High-frequency acupoints were mostly distributed on the face. The acupoint combination with the strongest association was Xiaguan(ST7)-Jiache(ST6).The cluster analysis classified the acupoints into two categories. Conclusion Mild moxibustion and indirect moxibustion are mainly adopted in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome. The commonly used treatment method is warming needle moxibustion, and importance is attached to the selection of acupoints along meridians and in local areas in moxibustion. The results can provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of moxibustion in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome.
