Professor Fu Xiaojun's Experience in the Treatment of Henoch-Sch?nlein Purpura Nephritis from the Defense-Qi-Nutrient-Blood Theory
This article summarized Professor Fu Xiaojun's clinical experience in treating Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis(HSPN)using the defense-qi-nutrient-blood theory in the study of warm diseases and outlined the etiology,pathogenesis,syndrome differentiation features,and medical cases.Professor Fu believes that this disease is mostly caused by the invasion of pathogenic wind-heat toxins,with the main pathogenic mechanisms being the disharmony of qi and blood and the invasion of heat toxins into the meridians.The progression of the disease generally follows the rules of the transmission and transformation of defense-qi-nutrient-blood,so clinical treatment is based on the differentiation of syndromes according to the principles of defense-qi-nutrient-blood.Defense aspect syndromes are treated with dispersing wind,clearing heat,and dispersing qi in both exterior and interior,while those with severe invasion of pathogenic factors into the qi aspect or even dual blaze of qi and blood are treated with clearing heat,cooling blood,promoting blood circulation,and removing blood stasis.Nutrient aspect syndromes are treated with clearing the nutrient qi to resolve the purpura.Blood aspect syndromes are treated with cooling blood,removing toxins,clearing heat,and dispersing blood stasis.If the disease persists and there is deficiency of healthy qi with lingering pathogenic factors,treatment should focus on nourishing the body's healthy qi while eliminating the pathogenic factors,addressing both the root cause and the symptoms.Commonly used formulas include Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou Decoction,Siteng Decoction,Qingying Huadian Decoction,Xueniao Prescription,Qingshu Yixue Decoction,Buzhong Yiqi Decoction,modified Shenling Baizhu Powder,which greatly enrich the clinical application of defense-qi-nutrient-blood syndrome differentiation.
