Correlations between Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitutions and Premenstrual Syndrome of Female College Students in Tianji
Objective To explore the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)constitutions in female college students with premenstrual syndrome(PMS)in Tianjin and the correlations between TCM constitutions and PMS.Methods A cross-sectional study on the female students with PMS at three colleges in Tianjin was conducted from March to July in 2023.The general information,PMS syndrome scale scores,and TCM constitutions of 520 college students were investigated.Results A total of 498 valid questionnaires were recovered,with the recovery ratio of 95.77%.Among the participants,352 showed the PMS scores≥6,with the PMS incidence rate of 70.68%.Specifically,210(59.66%),108(30.68%),and 34(9.66%)participants showed the PMS scores of 6-10 points,11-20 points,and>20 points,respectively.The menstrual blood volume and color and menstrual insomnia in the PMS scale presented statistical significance(P<0.01).The composition ratios of the TCM constitutions of qi deficiency,blood stasis,and qi depression in the PMS patients varied(P<0.01,P<0.05).Higher PMS scores corresponded to severer qi deficiency,blood stasis,and qi depression.Conclusion The incidence of PMS was high in female college students in Tianjin.The female college students with PMS mainly presented the TCM constitutions of qi deficiency,yang deficiency,blood stasis,and qi depression.PMS had strong correlations with TCM constitutions.Higher PMS scores were positively correlated with severer qi deficiency,blood stasis,and qi depression.
